Mr. berglund's ethics class

Couple of things - 3/2/15:
1.  FYI - Easybib does not always make a correct citation.
2.  We double-checked, when you are giving the edition for a book - use the number not the word.  Example 3rd ed., 2nd ed., 10th ed.!
3.  Best resource (no exceptions) for writing an MLA paper is here:
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/section/2/11/
Get in the habit of checking your citations before you post them.

The Easiest Way to Make a Bibliography!
                                                                  Ethics lesson: 2/24/2015
1.  Open link:
http://secondary.oslis.org/@@mla-secondary
2.  Make three citations
         a. Book: Open Mr. Berglund's page - go to the article about Friedrick Nietzsche (we will treat this like a book, not an ebook)

  • What type of book is this?
  • Is there an author?  Editor?
  • Go back to OSLIS - what type of citation format will you choose?
  • Fill fields and create citation
         b.  Web site:  Click on link -http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/nietzsche/#MidPerWri187188
  • Go to OSLIS - what type of citation format for this?
  • Fill fields and create citation
    Save in Word
        c. Database - WorldBookOnline- UN:
    coronado;  Pswd: tbird
    • Click on ADVANCED
    • Search for "ethics"
    • Click on first article
    • Look at Left Column
    • Click on "Citation Information" --MLA format
    • Copy and Paste the citation into your word doc
      (in the rt. order)

All notes must be in composition books - no loose papers accepted
Work should be hand-written
Write legibly (i.e. big enough to read and clear enough to read). No microscopic writing - we will not be able to give you a grade unless we can read it
Please write in blue or black pen - pencil and other ink colors can be too light for our old eyes
Assignments for Upcoming Composition book submission (Starts with February 27th Article):
1.  Do your t-chart
2.  Make your MLA citation for each article read.  Place this at the top of your t-chart
3.  Look at the right column - your thoughts and questions about the article.  Circle your best question.  If you don't have a question written on the right column, think about your opinions and formulate a question.  Write it at the end of the right column

MLA Citation in correct format at top -
stapled to the top from word doc

****Perfect citation = 100; anything less = 0

Notes from the article

Include Things Like:
1.  Main Ideas and Themes

2.  Words that are new to you from
the article - words you need to
look up and write the definition
3.  Quotes that you like
4.  Stick to the facts of the article

Because the article are long and very involved, this should be several pages long in your composition book.

Write this are you are reading - do not wait and write it after you have read the article.  Or, read the article through once, then read it again and take notes.

My thoughts/reactions/
opinions/questions

Include:
1.  Opinions about your article
2.  Points you agree with and why
3.  Points you disagree with and

      why
4.  Questions you might have about

      the article
5.  Over all reaction - what do you think, and why?

This can be as long as you feel does justice to your opinions, reactions, and questions.  But, it should at least be 1-2 pages in your composition book

example of writing

guidelines for submission:

Your assignments are due:
